Dining Out? Get Ready for a Delight!

Taking your dog out on the town

There is just something about eating outdoors that brings out the adventurer in the both of you. And what better way to enjoy all that nature offers than sitting on a restaurant patio basking in the warmth of the afternoon with your dog, especially when it is easier than ever to bring him along? This enjoyable excursion just might bring out the inner puppy in him, too!

For Amber Mundinger and her German Shepherd, Madison, warm days mean any number of playful stops in their hometown of Orlando, Fla., from the local farmers market to popular restaurants. One of their favorite places to spend time together is Relax Grill, where Mundinger and Madison frequent the restaurant because of its dog-friendly patio and location on Lake Eola.

“Restaurants with water bowls make it easier for dogs. Everything is just built right in,” says Mundinger, who prefers to pack light when out and about. She and Madison need only their sense of adventure and desire for fun.

Before venturing out to your favorite local restaurant, call ahead to make sure you and your friend can enjoy patio dining. Some of the most dog-friendly restaurants around the country, such as Park Bench Café in Huntington Beach, Calif., offer a great outdoor atmosphere for you and your dog. Also, consider choosing a restaurant or patio with scenic views, such as Cullen’s Bar and Grill in Chicago, Ill., which sits a few blocks away from Wrigley Field and next door to the Mercury Theater. Prior to embarking on a night out on the town, keep in mind that most dog-friendly restaurants still require leashes.

If your dog likes to stretch his legs before or after his meals, consider taking him to a more airy patio or to a restaurant near a park. The Boathouse, located in St. Louis, Mo., sits in the middle of spacious Forest Park. Not only does it offer beautiful views of the St. Louis Art Museum, it boasts plenty of running room to play before or after dinner. So whether you live in California, Florida, or somewhere in between, enjoy all that summer has to offer at an outdoor restaurant with your favorite buddy.

Where do you and your dog go for the ultimate outdoor dining experience?
