Most travelers know this idyllic, motor-free island for its historic charm. What many do not know is that the island is mostly a state park with so many attractions for you and your dog to discover! The park, situated in the western part of Lake Huron, spans 1,800 acres—all primed for adventure. Hike with your dog on any of the 61 miles of trail, making sure not to miss two of the state park's most notable natural features: Sugar Loaf and the Arch. The island's limestone cliffs and rolling terrain provide great spots for the two of you to take in a sunset or cheer on one of the many yacht races nearby. If you and your dog enjoy the water, venture along the 8-mile shoreline state highway, which, like the island, is closed to vehicle traffic. Those looking for an even more unique way to experience this state park can hop the Star Line Ferry, which you and your dog can ride between the mainland and the island.
