Dog's Life
Moving Buddies
Relocating is fun with your best friend at your side!
The big day is here and it’s time to move into a new home. It’s going to be full of new experiences—especially when your dog is by your side as you embark on a new and exciting adventure!
Whether you’re moving across the country or simply across town, moving is a great opportunity to spend some quality time with your best friend! That’s exactly what Destin, Fla., resident Sherry Londe and her Schnoodle, Buttons, did when they moved from St. Louis to the Florida coast last August.
The pair had a great time during the 12-hour drive from Missouri to Florida. In fact, driving is something they enjoy doing together all the time! No matter where Londe goes, Buttons is buckled-up right next to her. “Buttons loves to be in the car,” Londe says.
The only thing different about this car ride was its length. “It’s a long trip and we’ve never driven that far together before,” she says. Buttons didn’t seem to mind the long drive. After all, they were doing what they love doing most! They stopped every two hours so she and Buttons could stretch their legs and play, which made the trip even more fun.
Once they arrived at the new place, Londe did everything she could to make her pal feel comfortable. “Buttons has adjusted really well,” she says. “She just needed to get used to the new neighborhood.” They went on walks around the area and, of course, took a trip to the beach. She also made sure Buttons had all her favorite toys.
Wichita, Kan., resident Allison Nicklin and her Jack Russell Terrier, Wheezer, have moved together three times! The pair didn’t travel far though. They moved to Wichita, then to a small suburb, and back to Wichita. But no matter how many different homes they have had, Wheezer is happy as long as her best friend is there!
When it came time for the big day, Nicklin made sure Wheezer had her blanket. “It’s her safety place,” Nicklin laughs. “She feels at home when she has it with her.” They also brought along Wheezer’s favorite toy, a stuffed Panda bear about three times her size. Both of these items have moved with them to each house.
“It was important to have all her toys and personal items in the new home before we got there so she saw things she recognized. That way she didn’t just show up to an empty house.”
Luckily, all three homes had backyards, so there weren’t any major changes she had to adjust to. “She could still go outside and play whenever she wanted,” Nicklin says.
No matter how far you and your dog are moving, the big day is a fun and exciting journey that you and your best friend get to experience together!
