Dog's Life
It's Paw-ty time!
By Paula Felps
From backyard barbecues to simple parties, more and more dogs and their owners are getting festive. But it’s not just birthdays that are giving them cause to celebrate; just about any special day can be customized to create a dog-friendly party theme!
Tail Talk
At the end of a long workweek, who doesn’t want to kick back and enjoy a nice, cool beverage and great conversation? And that includes your dog, of course! Whether you meet at a park or at your home, a Tail Talk theme can be a fun way to relax on a Friday night and celebrate the start of your weekend together.
Party tips: Decorating is optional, but make sure that you have both beverages and bites for all the guests—people and pooches. Remember, only serve treats and food formulated for dogs to your four-legged friends. Don’t forget to water the yard—with dog bowls, that is. Visiting dogs will enjoy the ample fresh water. The pooches will appreciate a party favor too, so treat them with a new toy to play with as they arrive.
Mardi Paws
Ring in Fat Tuesday with a canine celebration. Put on some lively Mardi Gras music, and pull out the purple, yellow, and green collars. And for an all-out blowout, why not try a parade in the backyard?
Party tips: Those bright, bold Mardi Gras colors are key; you can even provide purple, yellow, and green water bowls for visiting dogs. And of course, you’ll want lots of beads for decorations, but keep them out of reach of the dogs.
Howl-o-Ween
October 31 isn’t just for people! Get your best buddy in on the fun with a full-blown Howl-o-Ween shindig. Encourage fun contests with dog-toy prizes for such things as “Best Look-alikes” and “Most Original.”
Party tips: Of course, you’ll want to go all out with the decorations: the more ghouls and goblins, the merrier. Wanna get playful? Instead of a trick, go with a treat and surprise your four-legged partygoers with a fun Halloween-themed dog toy.
Happy Pawlidays
Celebrate the holiday season in style with a dog-themed party. This is a grrr-eat time to share the joy of friendship, and you can provide each visiting dog with a toy or special treat as a gift. Favors such as holiday-themed bandanas are always a fun touch too!
Party tips: This is a season for giving, so why not make this party one that helps others? Ask guests to bring a new dog toy that you can donate to a local rescue group.

My dogs Biscuit and Bacon were both born in February--one on the 14th and one on the 18th. So we had the party the weekend between their birthdays. We had a grr-eat time on that paw-perrfic day in February!

Whenever I have any type of party, it's from both of us--myself and Ginger, my Shih Tzu. She went to her first stag and doe party. She was the hit of the party. Everyone loved her, even the bartenders.
