A Prairie Dog Park Companion
Gary and Luke
Akron, OH
If I could create a My Dream Dog Park it would be prairie themed with wide open spaces covered in lush perennial ryegrass and fescue. There would be dedicated areas for large dogs and small dogs. Shades trees would dot the landscape. Seating would be provided on log benches, replica wagon seats and high-back wooden chairs strung together like benches. Additional shade would be provided over the seating areas with lean-to-style awnings or coverings that would be reminiscent of covered wagons. There would be an agility course and play area designed as a conestoga covered wagon and camp site with ramps leading up into and out of the covered wagon and areas to run under the wagon. The park would also have a water feature that would include an old fashioned water pump that could work as part of a splash zone or possibly supply water to a shallow pond. A large shelter, in a log cabin or sod home design, would provide an area for entertainment or educational activities. And the jewel of the park would be a statue of a boy and girl in prairie-style fashions with their dog by their side. The statue that would oversee a memorial garden for the canine companions we have lost.
