“Tag. You’re it!” Friends everywhere know this phrase is the start to one of the greatest games of all time. And your puppy knows it, too!
Lubbock, Texas, resident Heather Smith and her Border Collie and black Labrador Retriever mix puppy Lola can’t seem to get enough of their favorite game. “We play tag daily,” says an enthusiastic Smith. “Lola loves to run! She runs after me around the house and then I run after her (especially when she has a toy!).”
Playing any game with your puppy is a sure way to have a memorable moment, but there’s just something about this classic game that brings the two of you together, literally! “Playing tag with Lola is great bonding time for the two of us,” Smith says. “If I am running, I know that she is always right beside me. We play a game where she follows me around the island in the kitchen and we see who can catch who first! I can always tell when she’s having fun because her tail is wagging and her ears are perked up!”
But there’s nothing wrong with putting your own twist on the game. Instead of following each other, try fetching a toy together or change your normal “tag” to a belly rub from you and a nose lick from him.
However you play the game, one thing is for sure: You’ll both have a great time making up your own rules! “Another game we play is where I will crouch down on the ground facing her,” Smith describes. “She gets really low with her head to the ground and then begins to army-crawl toward me. After a few seconds of that, she jumps up and sprints as fast as she can and licks my face!”.

My Jasmine is a little over 1 y/o and we love playing together. Tug-o-war is her favorite. I am in a wheelchair and need to hold on when she tugs. I laugh, she wags her tail.
