Those first memories of bringing home your puppy will make you smile for years to come. But sharing them is a lot of fun, too! Capture those first moments, from your first day together to his first birthday with some creative ideas that you both can try at home.
First day home:
Pictures of course! If you have a video camera, you'll enjoy filming those first few minutes as he explores his new home and stays close by your side.
Pause for those paws:
His paws are going to grow, grow, and grow. Since you both love the outdoors, why not take your memories out to the yard too? Easy-to-use stepping-stone kits enable you both to place a paw (or a handprint!), etch your names and the year, and decorate with colorful stones. Do another one next year to see how he's grown.
Tip: Put plastic wrap down on the wet cement first to avoid getting your "paws" dirty.
Grow online:
Web sites make it fast and easy to save your memories and share! Later you may want to start a "dog blog," but a great starting point is the Beneful Scrapbooks site at www.beneful.com/Scrapbooks, where you can set up a profile and upload photos.
First bark:
Turn that little bark into a ringtone for your phone! You'll be surprised how different it sounds as he gets older.
Snooze button!
One minute he's playing; next you'll see those eyes closed and that furry ball all curled up, next to you of course! Snap a picture, or capture on video, and put it on your puppy blog! And yes, you can make a photo-button to wear, too!
Watch cartoons:
How fun would it be to "cartoon" you and your puppy? A number of Web sites and software programs can transform a photo into a cool cartoon! (Which is a lot of fun to post as your cell-phone or computer screen-saver.) Or visit one of the many dog-friendly festivals this spring and summer for a caricature artist to sketch out a memento of your day together!
