by Kristy Alpert

Although every day feels like a holiday when you are with your dog, did you know there are 7 dog holidays that you and your dog can celebrate? From the well-liked National Dog Day to the Take Your Dog to Work Day, you and your dog can get creative making each dog holiday special.

Greensboro, North Carolina, resident Sara Vestal has celebrated Take Your Dog to Work Day for 11 years. Sara now has a new friend to take with her to her Replacements, Ltd., office, her 18-month-old Boxer, Harvey.

“I’ve celebrated with Harvey since he was five weeks old,” Sara says. “The holiday’s great. It’s just a wonderful experience to be able to bring Harvey with me. It takes a lot of stress off.”

Dog Holidays
Other popular dog holidays throughout the year include:

  • Love Your Pet Day — February 20
  • International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day — February 23
  • National Puppy Day — March 23
  • National Pet Month — May
  • Take Your Dog to Work Day — June 24
  • National Dog Day — August 26

More Ways to Celebrate
From giving your dog a new toy on Love Your Pet Day to heading across town for an outdoor concert with your dog, celebrating your best friend with your best friend doesn’t get much better!

The best part about celebrating Take Your Dog to Work Day for Sara and Harvey? “The companionship!” she says, adding how much she loves seeing Harvey play during their trips to the break room for coffee refueling. “If I am having a bad day, Harvey is always there to cheer me up, so having him at work with me takes the stress away from the day. I can just reach down and pet his little head and he’s down there looking up at me with those eyes, and everything’s okay.”
