Fun Dog Party Ideas

by Paula Felps

Any day can be special with fun dog party ideas. From backyard barbecues to simple celebrations, more and more dogs and their owners are getting festive.

Weekend Dog Party Ideas
At the end of a long workweek, enjoy a few laughs together and some downtime … with your dog, of course! Whether at home or at a dog park, having a weekend party can be a fun way to relax on a Friday night and celebrate the start of your weekend together. Here are a few suggestions for keeping things fun and comfortable.

  • Decorating is optional, but make sure that you have both beverages and bites for all the guests — people and pooches.
  • Serve treats and food formulated for dogs to your four-legged friends.
  • Visiting dogs will enjoy bowls of fresh water.
  • As a fun party favor, treat pooches to a new toy to play with!

Mardi Gras Theme
Ring in Fat Tuesday with a canine celebration. Put on some lively Mardi Gras music, and pull out the purple, yellow, and green collars. And for an all-out blowout, why not try a parade in the backyard?

  • Bright, bold Mardi Gras colors are key.
  • Provide purple, yellow, and green water bowls for visiting dogs.
  • Though you’ll want lots of beads for decorations, keep them out of reach of the dogs.

Halloween Spectacular
October 31 isn’t just for people! Get your best buddy in on the fun with a full-blown "Howl-o-Ween" shindig. Encourage fun contests with dog-toy prizes for such things as "Best Look-alikes" and "Most Original."

Decorate your party venue with ghouls, goblins, and other Halloween creatures, but keep them out of paw’s reach.

  • Instead of a trick, treat four-legged partygoers with a fun Halloween-themed dog toy.
  • If you are holding the party outdoors, don’t forget to water the yard — with dog bowls, that is, and fun backyard features for your dog.

Holiday Get-Together
Celebrate the holiday season in style with a dog-themed party. This is a great time to share the joy of friendship.

  • Make your own invites. For extra fun, personalize each invitation with a paw print from your pooch!
  • Provide each visiting dog with favors such as holiday-themed bandanas.
  • This is a season for giving, so why not make this party one that helps others? Ask guests to bring a new dog toy that you can donate to a local rescue group or shelter.
