Boston, MA: Dog Friendly Places
by Paula Felps
Boston, Massachusetts, isn’t just one of our country’s oldest cities; it is also a city filled with dog-welcoming places. The rich history of Boston can be explored through guided walking tours, walking around, or just hiking.
You’ll also find dog parks (including the off-leash Peters Park in the city’s South End), shops that welcome dogs with open arms, and lots of dog-friendly wineries and restaurants. So grab the leash and your walking shoes, and get ready for an adventure that neither of you will ever forget.
Boston Hotels for Dogs
A great
vacation begins with finding a great place to stay. Boston is filled
with dog-friendly hotels. The Residence Inn Boston Harbor on Tudor Wharf
not only welcomes your dog, but also sits at the doorway to history.
Within walking distance from downtown, it is located at the edge of the
harbor, which is another great place to explore with your dog.
The Freedom Trail
Boston provides many places to walk, and one of the best ways to do
that is by taking a tour of The Freedom Trail. This 2.5-mile historic
walking trail lets you relive the story of the American Revolution in
its original settings. During the two- to three-hour tour, you’ll travel
through two and a half centuries of America’s past — with your dog!
(Take note that when you reach the Granary Burying Ground, small dogs
must be carried and big dogs will not be allowed in.)
Polka Dog Bakery
Though there are many places to visit in the South End with your dog,
Polka Dog Bakery has great gifts and offers a fun spot to relax and take
a break. Its Sunday brunch — featuring blueberry WOOFies — is a hit
with pooch patrons.
Four Preppy Paws
Sold
exclusively in Boston, a harness, collar, or leash from Four Preppy Paws
makes an attractive (and useful!) souvenir. Best of all, it can be
personalized with a name and phone number.
