Florida Keys: Dog Friendly Places

by Paula Felps

Sun, fun, and surf make the Florida Keys a large playground for tail-wagging tourists. The best way to explore the Florida Keys is by car – with your dog at your side, of course! This archipelago of 4,500 islands begins at the southeastern tip of the Florida peninsula – just south of Miami – and extends all the way south to Key West.

There are plenty of places for both two- and four-legged friends to stop and enjoy some fun, so make sure you've packed the sunscreen, a beach towel, and the water bowl – and get ready to roll!

Marina Del Mar, Key Largo

At the top of the Keys you'll find Key Largo, which is full of many dog-friendly restaurants and destinations. Stroll on the beach, take a boat ride together, and when it's finally time to call it a day, head to Marina Del Mar, where you and your pooch can enjoy waterfront accommodations in a resort setting.

Jolly Roger Travel Park, Marathon

Head south through Islamadora and you'll soon find yourself in Marathon, best known for its premier diving and snorkeling. You and your dog will want to head to the Jolly Roger Travel Park, where your dog can let his inner pirate run wild. The off-leash area is a great place for the two of you to romp together!

Castaway Waterfront Restaurant & Sushi Bar, Marathon

After you've worked up an appetite playing at the park, head to Castaway Waterfront Restaurant & Sushi Bar for some of the freshest seafood you'll ever have. A fun, dog-friendly atmosphere makes this a great place to hang out, whether for an hour or an evening.

Sunset Celebration, Key West

No trip to the Florida Keys is complete without a visit to the famed Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square Dock. This nightly festival celebrates another day in paradise, and you can enjoy street performers, food, drinks, exhibitors, and lots more. Leashed dogs are welcome to join in this fun-filled experience, which both of you are bound to remember for a long time.
